Buying and Selling Vehicles

Renewals: 

You need:

  1. Registration Certificate (Not Title).
  2. Proof of Insurance
  3. Payment of taxes and registration fees, plus any back taxes on any vehicles you own.

 

Out of State NEW vehicles

  1. Sheriff’s Inspection First
  2. Original Title
  3. Manufacturer’s Invoice or Affidavit of Total Consideration signed and notarized by the seller and buyer
  4. Lien Papers if applicable signed by owners.
  5. Signature of Person to whom vehicle is to be titled must be notarized.
  6. Usage Tax paid in full (Sales Tax).
  7. Payment in full.
  8. Transaction will take place only if owners does not have delinquent taxes on other vehicles.
  9. Proof of Insurance.  Kentucky Policy Only.

 

Out of State USED vehicles

  1. Sheriff’s Inspection First
  2. Original Title
  3. Affidavit of Total Consideration signed and notarized by seller and buyer.
  4. Lien Papers if applicable signed by owners.
  5. Signature of person to whom vehicle is to be titled must be notarized on VTR. If two names go on the title, BOTH must be notarized.
  6. If buying from an individual, back of title must be signed and notarized.
  7. Usage Tax paid in full (Sales Tax).
  8. Payment in full.
  9. Transaction will take place only if owner does not have delinquent taxes on other vehicles.
  10. If moving into Kentucky, you must show proof of usage tax paid to another state.
  11. Proof of insurance. Kentucky Policy Only.
